What a trip down memory lane we had at our 90th anniversary celebration!
Our building turns 90 this year, and we loved celebrating it throughout March and April.
We had lots of photos and snippets about the people who have been part of the church for so long. After a bit of digging in the archives we found all sorts of fascinating news!
We’ve also been rummaging through photo albums of Sunday School outings and Ladies’ Groups and all manner of past fun.
As ever, we had cake!
Darren gave us a quite re-cap on the amazing history of the church here in Bromborough. Thomas Matheson was the President of the Liverpool City Mission. He was a wealthy man living in Bromborough, and his concern for the spiritual state of its residents drove him to action for God. In 1866 he hired William Gibson, a young Scottish man living in Liverpool, to be a Missioner into Bromborough. Two years later he built the first Mission Hall (now the Wirral Tandoori) and a year after that another in Eastham (now home to Bramhalls Solicitors). The subsequent pastors led works in both halls until they were brought together into Matheson Memorial Hall in 1936. We were reminded of the way these men had hearts both for God and for the people of Bromborough, and how they were willing to step out with vision, boldness, and faith. They remain inspirations to us today.
