In recent years we have been delighted to have Year 5 pupils from Co-op Academy Woodslee performing a musical nativity for us.
Once again, the Woodslee children performed “Looking for an Infant King,” a series of songs that tell the story of the birth of Jesus.
The children were amazing – they looked the part, acted brilliantly, and sang out loud and clear!
A very big thank you and well done to all the children and staff at Woodslee đ

Luke 1:26-33
God sent the angel Gabriel to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph. Gabriel appeared to her and said, âGreetings, favoured woman! The Lord is with you!â Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. âDonât be afraid, Mary,â the angel told her, âfor you have found favour with God! You will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!â
Mary, Mary, Mary
Iâve got some extraordinary
News to give to you today
Youâre such an honoured lady
Youâre gonna have a baby
Listen to what I have to say
The Son of God
The King will reign
Jesus is his name
The Son of God
The King will reign
Jesus is his name
Mary, Mary, Mary
I know it seems quite scary
To think youâll be a special mum
Although you are so lowly
And God is great and holy
Heâs chosen you to bear his only Son
The Son of God
The King will reign
Jesus is his name
The Son of God
The King will reign
Jesus is his name
Luke 2:3-7
Everyone returned to their own family towns to register for the census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea. He travelled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.
He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
Now Mary and Joe came to Bethlehem
And they walked around till they found an inn
But the innkeeper had to tell them, âTry next doorâ
They tried some houses after the inn
They were all full up – some census thing
And all they kept on hearing was, âTry next doorâ
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Keep hunting high and low
Weâre sure youâll find just the place real soon
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Donât you ever give up hope
This saviour child will get the perfect room
Mary and Joe really needed a room
This baby was going to be coming out soon
But every place they went said, âTry next doorâ
Mary and Joe look hard all around
Bethlehem was not a big town
And every door they knocked said, âTry next doorâ
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Keep hunting high and low
Weâre sure youâll find just the place real soon
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Donât you ever give up hope
This saviour child will get the perfect room
So Mary and Joe went back to the inn
And the innkeeper said, âWell, hereâs the thing:
I know that all youâve heard is, âTry next doorâ
Iâve got a little stable, nice and warm
Not much of a place for a king to be born
But walk this way and step through the back door.â
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Keep hunting high and low
Weâre sure youâll find just the place real soon
Try next door, Mary and Joe
Donât you ever give up hope
This saviour child will get the perfect room
Luke 2:8-14
That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lordâs glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. âDonât be afraid!â he said. âI bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Saviourâyes, the Messiah, the Lordâhas been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! â
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of othersâthe armies of heavenâpraising God and saying,
âGlory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.â
There were shepherds out in the fields
Making sure their sheep were alright
An angel in the sky appeared
And gave them all a terrible fright
He said, âNo need to be terrified
Even though I am up here in the sky
Iâve got some great news for you all
Weâre here to tell you that the Saviour is born!â
Glory to God in the highest!
And peace on earth with God above!
Glory to God in the highest!
Who is this child to show us all Godâs love?
Well that was pretty strange news to come down
So they hurried all the way into town
Near Mary and Joseph they saw
This baby fast asleep in the straw
They told them what the angel had said
About a Saviour with a trough for his bed
And everyone who heard was amazed
And the shepherds went back home and they praised:
Glory to God in the highest!
And peace on earth with God above!
Glory to God in the highest!
Who is this child to show us all Godâs love?
Matthew 2:1-5
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, âWhere is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.â
King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem. He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law and asked, âWhere is the Messiah supposed to be born?â
âIn Bethlehem in Judea,â they said.
We are wise men from afar
Donât need SatNav following a star
Wouldâve been easier in a car
And weâre looking for an infant king
We werenât that wise
Going to the wrong place
Herod wasnât happy
Shouldâve seen his face!
We are wise men from afar
Donât need SatNav following a star
Wouldâve been easier in a car
And weâre looking for an infant king
Now weâre back
On the road again
Looking for a king
In Bethlehem
We are wise men from afar
Donât need SatNav following a star
Wouldâve been easier in a car
And weâre looking for an infant king
We brought gold
Frankincense and myrrh
Pretty weird gifts
Caused quite a stir!
We are wise men from afar
Donât need SatNav following a star
Wouldâve been easier in a car
And weâre looking for an infant king
Philippians 2:6-11
Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminalâs death on a cross.
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest
honour and gave him the name above all other names,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Fast forward 30 years
The child is now an amazing man
The dead are raised and the sick are healed
By him.
Fast forward a little more
No-one wants him to be their king
The soldiers mock him and the people roar
âKill him!â
Itâs a long way from Bethlehem
The perfect king killed by wicked men
But now he reigns âcos he rose again
Our king
Fast forward 2,000 years
And he still sits on the throne of heaven
The love of God has been revealed
In him.
Fast forward on some more
Heâs coming back just one more time
To rule the earth and every eye will
See him.
Itâs a long way from Bethlehem
The perfect king killed by wicked men
But now he reigns âcos he rose again
Our king
